Before you pulled it back apart, did you spin the hub-drum and observe the gap between the backing plate and it? Any pictures from the side? Your one photo suggest to me that backing plate isn't sitting normal (90 degrees) to the centerline of the spindle.

I'm going to throw out a left field question and ask if it is the correct backing plate for the side.

There are left and right backing plates.

That is a good question. Etrailer sent it out. Its the left side marked left and it fit right on the axle

The larger brake pad should face towards the front of the trailer.

It is probably correct, just thinking of things that may be causing noise.

I think someone mentioned measuring the distance from the face of the magnet to the backing plate and comparing it to another brake assembly. My point being that the magnet is mounted and secured to the curved arm that goes up to the top. The magnet is secured to the arm with a relatively small clip. I'd check that it is secure and the magnet is the proper distance from the backing plate. Also, someone mentioned that the backing plate may not be mounted square with the axle. I'd check that but I don't think it would make much of a difference.

I'm interested in the outcome as I'm in the process of doing the same thing and am waiting on 3 more brake assemblies to be delivered.
