There is only one way to know what you can tow and that is to take your tow vehicle to a scale and weigh it as you would use it to go camping
Subtract that from the gvwr posted on the door and the rest is easy

That ^^^^ is part of it, but you also might want to know the towing capacity AND the GCVWR....and neither one of those numbers is on the truck safety sticker.

In almost every circumstance with a high wall travel trailer payload will run out long before tow ratings or gross combined

While that is true ^^^^, high walled travel trailers are NOT the only thing that trucks tow. In the real world there are lots and lots of flatbed utility trailers that haul construction equipment, from backhoes, front loaders, etc, and then the triple axle enclosed trailers, some of which are 40' long and capable of hauling lots of weight. And just as a minor correction, high walled "travel trailers" are not normally an issue. High walled 5th wheel trailer usually are.

100 percent agree Since this is an rv forum I didn’t factor in equipment trailers and boats which of course can exceed gross combined
Many times on the farm I had to transport the skid steer on a float to different fields all over the county
It weighed north of 16000 lbs. mostly behind the 2500 Ram which handled it but sometimes it got hooked to the bosses Tundra. Got to love farm plates
