Auto-level retraction starts and stops - the replacement part is different

On my 2018 Solitude 310GK, the hydraulic jacks and slides extend just fine but only retract an inch or so at a time.
So it takes me 10-15 minutes to get all the jacks up and the slides in.
    This is annoying.

I called GD and they said I needed a new solenoid #118246 . And they would send me the new solenoid with 80 (amp) capability instead of the 50 (amp) on the original solenoid.

HOWEVER the new part they sent me is just an WATERPROOF 80 30VDC IGNITION PROTECTED switch with two connectors to BAT and AUX. This looks nothing like the DUAL POLARITY SOLENOID that I am trying to replace.

Am I missing something or did they send me the wrong part and I am stuck on the road with jacks and slides that barely retract?

I tried to include pictures but the forum post mechanism won't let me add pictures no matter how many times I log in/reduce the image file size.

    Thanks for any suggestions

The typical fix is to replace the 50 amp CIRCUIT BREAKER with a 80 amp auto resetting CIRCUIT breaker. Not the solenoid.

Thanks. Would you have a picture of this. I have the replacement 80A circuit breaker but don't see anything that looks like this in the front compartment??

Correct, you don’t have anything that “looks like this”, it’s a replacement for the 50 amp breaker you have. Do a forum search, lots of threads on this topic.

That is indeed the "autoreset circuit breaker". The stock 50A unit on our 2018 310GK is a rectangular metal can. This does the same thing, but is different form factor/apprearance. Here is a picture of our stock setup on the back wall of the front compartment (under a thin black plastic cover) behind the battery.

I had lots of start/stop issues on my trailer until I replaced it with an aftermarket (Bussman) 80A breaker. No problems since.

Here is the new 80A breaker mounted on the wall beside the hydraulic pump. I also upgraded my wiring to 4 gauge (both positive and negative/ground) between the battery and the pump (through the circuit breaker and reversing solenoid). Sorry for the rotated picture.

pictures from my 50A to 80A hydraulic jack breaker replacement.

    thanks for the help everyone.

Here are some pictures from my 80A breaker replacement of the original 50A breaker on my Grand Design 310GK.
They sent it to me at a friend's house in Tucson in three days which was GREAT - THANKS.

    To reiterate instructions:
FIRST - Turn off the 12V cutoff switch in the tunnel, disconnect the battery(s), take them out so you have access to the breaker cover and breakers and remove the cover over the set of four breakers.
Then the pictures show the dissassembly

    • 082134 is the original location and wiring for the breakers. The 50A hydraulic pump motor is the bottommost breaker. There is a copper bus bar for the + battery side so you also have to unscrew at least the next nut up. And since the threads on the 80A break are NOT 1/4-20 you have to find the correct nuts or reuse the original ones. I used some 1/4" lock washers to make the new breaker the correct height.
    • 084731 is the original 50A breaker (top) and the new 80A break (bottom). The 80A one is a completely different size and since I just reused the bus bar, I only used the top left screw to secure the new breaker to the wall. Others have added a jumper. and moved the breaker NOTE THAT THE NEW BREAKER HAS METRIC STUDS AND CLOSE TO BUT NOT 1/4" DIA POSTS - YOU HAVE TO DRILL OUT THE HOLES IN THE CABLE LUGS AND THE BUS BAR
    • 084921 using vice grips to hold the cable lugs. drill from both sides and the lugs will still twist when the holes meet. Just straighten the lug out.
    • 085508 is a picture of the set of 4, now 3, breakers, with the 50A breaker removed ready for new 80A breaker

The breaker are NOT 1/4-20 threads so reuse the nuts or figure out the thread and buy appropriate nuts
I installed the new 80A breaker on the last bus bar position. I left the wiring as 50A wiring though others have gone to heavier gauge. I am on the road with limited time/resources. Seems to work fine. Only one screw holds the new 80A breaker to the wall but the bus bar also provides support so I am OK with this.

The new breaker worked GREAT - jacks went up and down and slides in and out without hesitating. I'll see how this works when it is cold (0F or less, about 60F now, in Tucson) but VERY pleased so far.

BTW, Amazon has a larger breaker with a switch for less than $20 and faster delivery if you want to go that route and spend a lot less time on the phone.

I wonder if the 50amp was still used in the early 2022s? Looks like the 80amp is the replacement part on GD parts look-up but I haven't looked at mine yet as this is the first thread I've seen that talks about the problems with the 50amp breaker. I've had increasingly more frequent problems getting my jacks to retract though it's not always the same ones and sometimes multiples - nothing with slides yet. I mentioned the issue to the dealer and Grand Design (310 is in for warranty work now) and both said it was common due to colder weather. Well, I didn't think 45F was so cold that it would have such an impact. But it takes me an increasing number of 'retract all' presses to get the jacks fully up and I have heard a clicking sound in the front compartment. It is getting worse - originally just the left front jack was finicky, now they all are at different times.

I think the dealer fluff to put it politely. I bought ours used and they said the same thing. It's NOT TRUE- get the 80 amp upgrade.

The only problems I really had were the threads on the bolts on the 80 amp breaker seem to be metric and I was doing this at a campground and I had to drill out the electrical lugs because the new studs are larger than the old ones. You can change wiring if you want. I'll probably just shorten the wire run when it is WARMER.

Having a similar recent problem on my 2019 375-res with intermittent stop start on leveling system. Ordered the 80a CB, only to find the current original install CB is 100a. Cold weather not an issue here in NW Florida. Any other thoughts on that? I read another post saying they were pulling 119a on their system. Is that typical? In that case wouldn’t the 100a auto resetting CB do a similar thing?
