    Hardwired Surge Protector

Has anyone installed (DIY) a Hughes Watchdog surge protector in an Imagine 2600rb?

I am wondering if it's easily done or if it's better to have it installed.

Thanks in advance for the help!

    ~Alan

First off @joelumberjack, it looks like this is your first post, welcome to the forum. I don't have that surge protector but this search might help (https://www.google.com/search?q=mygr...&ie=UTF-8#ip=1).

I bought the Hughes Watchdog surge protector model PWD30-EPO-H but haven't installed it yet. Waiting for warmer weather since I live in Michigan. I'm pretty good with Electrical and it doesn't look to complicated but that's me.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out where to put it so I have semi-easy access to it in case I need to replace the module.

I've thought of putting it behind the converter/circuit breaker panel OR under the trailer between the frame and the black flex insulation that is fastened to the frame OR perhaps somewhere in the cargo spot under the bottom bunk where bikes and such can go. I have to poke around a little bit.

    @joelumberjack -

Another welcome to the forum. Here are a few forum tips:

    1) If you use "Reply With Quote" (to the right of "Reply") as I have here, folks will know to whom you are responding and that person will get a notification.

    2) You can also tag folks using the "@" symbol and their user name (as I have done yours) - they'll also get a notification that way.

    3) If you choose to get a paid membership (nominal cost and well worth it), you can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

I installed a Progressive Industries behind my power center. The install was not too difficult. If you remove the drawer above the power center you will have more room to work.

    Something else to ponder

I chose a Hughes watchdog portable unit
Imo it is easier also I prefer any electrical issues with a pedestal to happen at the pedestal not inside my coach
Also if the unit fails overriding it is difficult

I can’t see any advantage of a hard wired unit

I hardwired a Progressive Industries 50 amp into my GD 303. Placed it under neath the cabinet where the power chord comes in, so it wasn't too bad to connect. I can bypass it with a switch.

This is my second surge protector. I had the same in my Jayco and several times it has tripped on low voltage on one of the legs.
