    Las Cruces

If you were going to spend a day in Las cruces, are there any recommended hikes/ walks? Natural sights to see?

Gosh - pretty random spot. I'll assume you are on your way to/from another location and Las Cruces is an overnight stop.

Maybe consider Rock Hound State Park about and hour west in Deming, NM. A really nice park and you could hunt for geodes or just hike around in the park. Also a neat museum in downtown Demming.

We were in Las Cruces if the Fall of 2021 for several days. I recall there is a great Farmers Market in downtown on Saturdays. We also hiked the Dripping Springs Natural Area and visited the Farm and Ranch museum which was pretty cool. Try doing an internet search for more ideas.

For day hikes, I would recommend Dripping Springs and Cuevas Rock (located next to each other) behind A Mountain in the Organ mountains. It's about 10 - 15 minutes up the foothills from the south side of town. I would also recommend the village of Old Mesilla... and while you're there, eat at either Andale's or La Posta (an old overland stage coach station). Mesilla is about a mile west of Hacienda RV Resort where you might be staying.

It's about 30 minutes. The distance is shorter if you go through town, but it's slower. A little longer taking the interstate but, of course, quicker. Driving up the west side of the mountains east of Cruces always makes my heart go pitter-patter. It has its own kind of beauty.
