    Which Route to Take

    Hey all, We will be on our way to the Owner's Rally shortly and, believe it or not, I still haven't decided entirely on my route.

    I do know I am obligated to go through probably Albuquerque, so I will be on I-40.

    My question or choices are then to continue on the 40 to 44 and up through St. Louis; take I-25 up to Denver and then either I-70 or I-80. So basically 3 different routes.

    I will have about 15 days for this leg of my trip.

    Thanks for any feedback as I've essentially never been on any of these roads as an adult.

    Poppy, I have a nephew that just returned from a 3 month trip out west in his TT. He says from Oklahoma City to Memphis, I-40 has to be the worst road in the US. He says that there are points on that route that he could not exceed 35mph due to the conditions of the road. Hope this helps.

    I think I-40 is the worst around Okla City. JHMO. I would go one route, return another way to see new country. I-80 has some bumps also.

    Poppy,

    I40 going into Oklahoma City is pretty bad for the last 15 miles or so. They have been working on that section for several years. Just take it slowly. If you take the toll road from OKC to Tulsa and Joplin, though, you will miss the remaining sections of bad east of OKC.

    Thanks for the I-40 updates guys. Even though 15 miles feels like forever, I think I'm forced to take it. We will be taking the I-44 north to St. Louis off the I-40 just west of Oklahoma City so hopefully we will miss some of the bad stuff. We'll be going right through your neck of the woods Robert. I've never been there. Any suggestions for a stop for a night or 2 anywhere along that stretch?

    Wow, I can't still believe I-40 is that bad in OK. It was that way 10+ years ago when I moved a friend from Memphis back here to So. Cal! But you gotta love I-40 through Northern Arizona. BTW, Poppy, there was some minor construction east of Kingman, but nothing too bad. Just watch the reduced limits in AZ, they are sticklers in construction zones.

    Albuquerque: High Desert RV Park or American RV Park

    Poppy,

    Amarillo: Oasis RV Park (8.8 rating) or Fort Amarillo RV Park (8.2) My brother-in-law stays at Fort Amarillo, trees, little cramped. Oasis is newer, no trees.

    Send me a PM if you are going to stay a night in Amarillo. Sheila and I would love to meet you and take you guys to dinner.

    Mr. Poppy sir;
    There is a great RV park about 25 miles S of Albuquerque on 25 at the Isleta casino. The train stops there and for $7.00 a peace you can take the train to Santa Fe. A shuttle will take you into town. Good day trip. The balloon museum is interestingly. About 25 miles N on 25 is Bernalillo and an old car collection the best I have ever seen-$5.00 entry fee. It is right next to the Stagecoach RV park. Well worth it.
    Have a good trip

    I was not the impressed with Isleta rv park. The grounds were dirty, the trash cans were over flowing, and no wifi. The main problem was every time the train went through the crossing at the rv park, the horn blew (on the upside, it did stop around 11 p.m.). This was a couple of years ago so maybe things have changed. JHMO
