    AGM battery/converter

    Hi, thinking of replacing my regular wet battery with a AGM dry one on my Reflection 295RL and wondering if that could cause problems with my converter! Thanks for your input.

    Just a note: AGM batteries are not "dry." They still contain electrolyte - it's just absorbed in a fiberglass mat.

    Why? Except for not needed to remember to check the electrolyte level, there is not a lot of difference between them and true deep cycle conventional lead acids. If you are getting a great price, then of course. But other than that....
    If staying with conventionals, which AGM's are, going to 2 6v for the same capacity as a Grp 31 AGM can be less expensive.

    Which still doesn't gain you anything since connecting batteries in series doubles the voltage but not the amp hour capacity. For the weight and bulk, two 12 volt batteries give you more AH capacity.

    As long as the converter does not have the 4th mode;
    EQUALIZATION Mode 14.4 Volts – Every 21 hours for a period of 15 minutes prevents battery stratification & sulfation – the leading cause of battery failure.
    AGMs do not need this...

    True - two 12's can give more than 2-6's, depending on the size selected. Two Grp 24 maybe not, two Grp 31's definitely. 'Tis all a balancing act between cost, weight, and capacity!
