New Reese Goosebox Has A 5,000 Lb Pin Capacity - Any Takers???

My original thread was based on the old model.

Out with the old model that was a 20k cap and a 4k pin.

In with the new model that has a 20k cap and a 5k pin.

My 398MR came from the dealer with some water in the tank, generator, and some gas in the tanks, and weighed in at 16,760 lbs and placed 3,300 on the pin.

The Rhino Box already on it advertises the ability to handle a trailer with a GVWR of 21,000 and a pin of 5,250....so it's got higher ratings...but not by much.

Given the fact that I'll be running heavy sometimes, with a 2400 lb side by side and my GVWR loaded out to the 20k max and perhaps a little over, would the increase in pin capacity cause you to convert over to the Reese Goosebox?

Your pin weight should drop some with the SxS. The increase in capacity is certainly a bonus for the heavier 5th wheels. Personally, I'm not going to switch. I had the Goosebox on my 311, and it was nice having a goose ball instead of the big hitch, but it really limits what you can put in the bed with the 5th wheel hooked up. I like to put all our folding chairs in the bed of the truck, and with the Goosebox, there is a potential for the chairs to slide around and get crushed by the Goosebox on turns. Other than that, no complaints and I really enjoyed towing with the Goosebox. I have the B+W Companion 25k now and love it with our 398. I had a Curt Q25 with our 399 and would never consider it again.

I too have a Reese Goosebox 20k and love it. I have been concerned about the 4000 lb pin weight limit, and got excited about you saying a new model has a 5,000 pin weight limit. But I just went on their website and there is no indication of a 5,000 limit - instructions still say 4,000. Where did you see this?

    This site says 5,000.

I see what you saw on the other site however.

You'd think they'd get that straight.
