Driving from Fishing Bridge RV Park to Colter Bay RV park
Looking for route advice driving from Fishing Bridge to Colter Bay. Towing an Imagine XLS 22MLE. Mapquest and multiple GPS's all show driving very long routes (300-400 miles ) instead of driving directly south and exiting through Yellowstone south entrance. Is there some reason we would not be able to drive the direct route ? Thanks for any help.

You should be able to go south and out with no issues. Not unless there have been problems with the roads. Been that way with a 35' fifth wheel, of course that has been about 15 years ago.

Not travelling right now. Will be leaving Fishing Bridge June 19, just can't understand why all directions do not show the direct route.

Some GPS's can be problematic at times depending on their settings. You may need to review yours to make sure they haven't changed somehow. What GPS are you using? I didn't even know Mapquest was still around.

The entrance may be currently closed and the GPS units are aware of that. If you go into Google Maps and select the Leave Now setting, it will allow you to set the departure date you want. I did this for my upcoming Yellowstone trip and it chose the direct route versus going out a different entrance.

We were just there at Fishing Bridge last Fall. That is the main route to the Tetons, Hwy #191 . Although the road is closed now, you might just have a setting on the gps giving you bad advice, like just posted below. Last year there was still considerable road construction and delays, including a bridge replacement at, I think, Lewis Lake region (South entrance). You should not have any problems.

Thanks everyone for your help. Received a return Email from NPS official from Fishing Bridge, he assured me the road will be O.K. Reason GPS is taking an indirect route is because of road closings due to time of year. In June roads should be fine.
