Well, it turns out the spring problem isn't really a problem. It was just a function of the fact that the slope of the ground was making the rear axle hang lower down than the bed of the trailer, which I had leveled. As soon as I retracted the rear stabilizers, this straightened out. Everything seems to be normal now. I still have no idea what the bang was that started things, but I don't see anything out of place. It was probably the springs popping as the rear axle was pushed back up into place.

The popping noise could have been one of the hangers flipping over. They make a lot of noise when they do that.

(Hopefully this one will land right side up!) The retainers would normally be pretty symmetrical. Does someone know what is going on there? I have manually leveled the trailer and all four wheels are now firmly on the ground. It made a small improvement on this picture, but it's still not anywhere near straight.

BTW, I found the leveling indicators referenced by @lorend when manually leveling it. When I get it to where the screen says it's level, a carpenter's level on the floor of the trailer says it is badly tail high. (enough that you can tell just by walking in the trailer). That seems to give support to the earlier suggestions that one of the sensors is loose or out of position.

Any help with the spring issue would be most appreciated. Now I'm afraid to pull it and I'm planning lo leave on a five-week trek out west in two weeks!
You might want to try and manually level it using the carpenters level and after you get it to where it reads, and feels, level you can reset the controller to that position. Then level it in with the controller using the auto level and see how it does. If you end up moving the rig and then leveling with the controller and it is not how it was before moving it would definitely indicate a loose sensor someplace. I try to always start with the simple fixes.

Sure it works fantastic at the dealership on perfectly level tarmac. Take it home to my fairly level driveway and voila, auto level doesn't work as expected. What I have discovered whether it is true or not, the leveling system is happy when the jacks extend roughly the same distance, and you have to start with an almost level RV to begin with. So what I use is nesting 2x8's with wheel chocks attached to them (purchased from Amazon). I just bought myself an auto level pro (also purchased from Amazon) that I can use on my phone app to see my RV level as I'm backing into a site. If my app tells me I am low on one side by 1.5 inches, I will add only one 2x8. I will also add a 1.5 inch block of wood under the leveling jacks on the same side. No more guessing or getting in out of the truck to see how much to need level the rig. Also, the hitch height feature is not that helpful at all. Once the auto level fails and you start maneuvering the jacks in manual, the hitch height memory disappears! Lame. With the auto level pro, you can record the hitch height and easily return your RV to that height.
I added a level to the pin box, so now as I'm parking our 337 I can see how level side to side it is. At home it use to auto level every time, but we had the old concrete drive replaced last year and it wouldn't auto level, turns out one side is 1 1/2" to 2" lower, adding lego blocks to the low side it will now auto level again.

How do you reset the controller? The only thing I see in the manual is the Zero Point calibration and reset. They say these functions are only available with the touchscreen controller, which I don't have.

I have the same controller that you posted the picture of earlier in post #36 . I had to go back and research how to do it again because mine has worked well since I reset it. What I came up with is to level the trailer to your liking, Then the four step process is: 1) Turn controller power off. 2) Press "front" 5 times. 3). Press "rear" fives times. 4) Press "enter" Your controller should now be reset to go to this same setting the next time that you hit auto-level. This did work for me so I hope you have good luck trying it.
