Well Jim, I did this yesterday and it seems to have worked. The trick will be not to tighten the collar too much as it will just re-break I'm sure.

BTW, I did call Furrion and was surprised by how nice and helpful the young man in support was. He told me that, although they sell the replacement collars, they can be very difficult to get on. He gave me some hints on how to do it like using a heat gun to soften the hard rubber rings around the plug and using something like Vaseline to get it on.

Anyway, I'm going to give this a try and see how well it holds but will order the replacement collars if it breaks again. They are only like $15 for a set of 2.

I agree with Rob. I have never used collar on houseboat or RV. The threads are very fine and plastic, easily striped or
damaged. GD mounting location does seem to be weaker than my last Toy Hauler 50 amp plug in. Time will tell if is a problem or not.

Took me a few connect/disconnect cycles moving around campsites to realize the arrows pointing to tighten/loosen on the connector are not just for the threaded collar but for the twist lock on the main connector itself.. guess I'm a slow learner. Lucky to not have broken the collar myself.

The technician at our dealer suggested a 50 amp right-angle adapter before we rolled off the lot (not from them, either). We ordered one from Amazon. Looks like it will really help reduce the stresses on both sides of the connection.

Glued our broken ring about a year ago. Noticed the ring was broken in a second place. The second break was unexpected as the shore power cord always stays attached to a 90 degree adapter. Old ring when removed was brittle, I'm guessing the plastic doesn't like UV light.

The replacement ring package came with two rings, one plastic and the other metal. I used the metal. With a little dish soap it was much easier getting the ring on than expected.

Freezer/ heat sound like a trick I was taught for replacing bearing races. Put the races in the freezer, warm the hub with either a propane or brazing torch and the race will drop in or go in with hand pressure.

I'm not convinced of the need for a lock ring. The plug locks in with a slight right-hand twist and there is no movement of the trailer when parked. Marine use is a different matter.
