    First Trip

Just made my first trip in my new 2023 2500 Duramax! First Diesel and wanted to put some miles on it before I towed. Left with 290 miles on it put about 600 miles on it and got 20.1 miles to the gallon, hand calculated. About 1.2 better than the onboard calculator! Mostly interstate and 4 lane highway, but about 30 miles city. I have had two gas 2500 and decided to try a diesel. Gas did fine, I only pull about 10,000lb but my son moved about 250 miles away, to the Smoky Mountains, so we will be pulling to the mountains more often now and thought I would try diesel! Hopefully it will give me a little more milage towing so I dont have to fill up before I get to the campground! The gas ones would make it but with little margin for traffic back ups! Could not resist trading since they gave me what I paid for my 2016 gas, so I drove it almost 7 years for free!

Glad the first trip went well, as others have touted the benefits of the diesel, I'm sure your towing will go well also, especially in those Smokey Mountains.

What you will really appreciate is the exhaust brake when coming back down the mountain. Congrats on the new truck, since you're used to gas, don't forget to keep an eye on DEF level, especially when towing.
