Finally did the Turning Point maintenance
All of the 150 series owners who haven’t done their bearing repack on the Turning Point can now know that it’s not that bad. I had lowered the pinbox before but never took the entire bearing out. If you do it just make sure you have 1 or 2 strong helpers. I supported the front of the box with a floor jack and a long 4x4. Remove the wing bolts leaving the back 2 slightly loose. When you remove the front ones make sure that you have the pinbox supported. Lower it down so it hangs. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut. I used a long screwdriver to separate the pinbox. Someone (or 2 people) need to lift the box off at this point leaving the base on the rv. Clean it up and repack the bearing after cleaning it in some brake cleaner. I am confident that most dealers will not do this job for numerous reasons. I can’t see them taking the time to do this carefully or having the knowledge to clean and repack a bearing properly. Most of the techs that I have encountered are not well trained or educated on repairs.

One bearing. One washer on top of it. Have the appropriate grease ready and a new 1/4 x 3 cotter pin. You also need a big set of pliers to crimp the pin around the nut. I used a set of large channel lock pliers. The
Wing bolts torque to 175. Use a 15/16 socket.
I also didn’t mention that you should look at videos of cleaning and repacking bearings if you don’t know how to do it. You need to clean all of this and then reassemble. Don’t just toss it back in.
If you are handy and have some tools it’s not bad. If you aren’t handy I wouldn’t try it.Last edited by ardvark16; 03-06-2023 at 07:36 AM.

I take it you use the Turning Point. What truck and hitch? Just wondering.
Thanks for tackling and posting this.

HI Ardvark
Can you tell me which grease you used? This will be my first time doing this since owning my 260RD. And I can use just simple break cleaner to clean the old bearing assembly? Nothing special?
Did you use a machine or repack the bearing by hand?

I used brake cleaner in a cup and soaked the bearing and just kept wiping it dry with a lint cloth. I also used a compressor to spray air through it so it was totally cleaned. I packed it by hand but it was a pain so I would buy a 20.00 bearing packer on Amazon to simplify it next time. The grease I used was Kendall L-427. Just make sure you have someone help you because it’s heavy. And make sure you have a new 1/4 x 3” cotter pin. And a nice set of channel locks to bend it snugly around the castle nut.
