Cross country trip and must see places

I知 working on planning our cross country trip for this late summer and fall, looking for suggestions of things to do and see. Specifically not the standard items like national parks. I知 looking for some off the general radar things. We will be traveling through the following states: UT, CO, KS, IA, MO, KY, TN, GA, FL, LA and TX. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Colorado: Ouray, Steamboat Springs, Wolf Creek, Pudre River (if you fly fish), Grand Junction, Red Rocks, Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison, Morrison, Idaho Springs, Georgetown, Vail, Breckenridge, Lookout Mountain in Golden, Golden... You could spend a year in Colorado and still not see all the little things in the state. Pan for gold at Cripple Creek, look for fossils on the many hiking trails in the foothills, hike the Royal Gorge, climb a fourteener, drive to the top of Pikes Peak, the Air Force Academy.

    Tennessee, the Blue Ridge highway.

Texas is big enough you'll want to spend a few years exploring there. The Natchez Trail, Big Bend, many caves throughout the Hill Country.

    TripAdvisor.com

    roadsideamerica.com

    atlasobscura.com

    attractionsofamerica.com

    thrills.com

All of the above after you have planned out something other than just states to visit. Find a few things you want to see, plan your trip to/from them then see what is on the route to/from those locations.

    also see

    myscenicdrives.com

    roadtrippers app

    factorytoursusa.com (and the app)

the Roadside app (maybe once you have some idea of some of your route(s)

There are thousands of places to see and explore. It's kind of hard to call out just a few. Once you have honed in on some general areas folks here will have great ideas of what is in that area.
