Second AC install any write ups?

    Hey all!

I am transitioning out of the military and have upgraded our camper to a Reflection 323bhs. The question I have is in regards to adding a second ac unit. In California we did not need the second unit, however as we travel across country, we definitely need to add one.

I have searched to try to find any specifics as to how the install should go. As I understand it should be fairly easy, however, as I went to purchase the unit, I found out there is more needed than just a plug n play type application.

    So my questions are:

    1. What unit is recommended for the add? I know dometic, but any more specifics?

    2. It is prepped with thermostat wiring, can someone expand on this? I will need another thermostat as I understand, but where does this wiring go to connect to?

I have a budget I must adhere to and quite frankly I like to do things such as this, but I like to do my homework first. I was also thinking of posting a write up on how to do it for DIYers like myself.

Thanks all for any info you can provide!

You'll probably want to go with the Dometic Penguin II low profile unit for the front bedroom. Be sure to get a ducted unit and the matching grill that goes where your 14" x 14" ceiling vent is. The digital thermostat mounts above the light switch. Just remove the light switch and the wiring is taped inside the paneling. The electrical wiring is waiting for you in the ceiling when you remove the vent. You'll also need to order a foam a/c gasket with sticky on one side.

UTube.com has an installation video, and it doesn't look that hard to install. Worst part is getting a 100 lb. a/c unit up on the roof.

The penguin 2 is 12" high where as the vent covers for a fan is 11" high. Not a big difference. Also the penguin 2 is what GD uses.

The specs on the Penguin say it is less than 10 inches high. I recently had one installed on my 337. I ordered it online, from RV Parts Country I think, because they had the best price. Had it installed by my local independent RV technicians where I keep my trailer stored. Their hourly rate is $99 and it cost me $200 for the installation. I think I could have done it, but getting it on the roof would have required help.

The problem is getting a 100 lb. a/c unit 11-12 feet up on the roof. The low profile may only save you 5-6 inches, but sometimes that's the distance to disaster.

I have seen on you-tube, videos of installing an AC unit. I have been thinking about adding another one to my Fuzion, but then I think, I will just sell it and buy a GD !

Hi all! I just wanted to say that thanks to the advice given on here, I have successfully installed the second AC in our Reflection. It's actually funny IMO, the weather has been much cooler with lots of rain so now we are just waiting to see how it does in true heat!

I do have one more question, using the existing ducting, what luck in what configuration have you all had?

    Thanks again!
