    F-150 as Generator for 22RBE ??

Step one is complete: We've selected and purchased a tow vehicle, after much careful research about tow capacity. (Thanks to the many knowledgeable posters on this forum!)

We have almost 100% settled on the Imagine XLS 22RBE model for our "independent travel suite".

Question is: Has anyone experience with using the F150 as a generator for the 22RBE (or similarly sized)? Trying to decide whether we will also need to purchase a separate generator, when the F150 has this functionality.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice!

Are you asking about the 2K generator option for the diesel engine? I thought that was only available in the Super Duty trucks.

In any event, the generator only has 110 outlet plugs so you would have to use an adapter. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

I have used the 2k onboard generator when camping and it works great. Just like having a Honda or similar but have a few advantages:

    1. At idle it is quieter than even a Honda
    2. No messing with gas, trying to start it in cold weather etc.
    3. Doesn't take up any space.

    Downsides:

    1. Idling for a little while is fine, but I wouldn't want to idle for hours. I would rather use up a $500 genny if I needed to run for hours.
    2. You are always carrying the extra weight.
    3. You can't daisy chain it (as far as I know). So you can't run the AC unless a soft start works (never tried it).

All in all I love having it and it is super convenient but may not work for everyone.

Just curious, does it have a 30 amp RV receptacle?

The 2kw has 2 20amp 120 outlets. Ford has a much larger 7kw version (not sure what it has).

So it is similar to plugging into your garage 120v outlet or a small generator (using an adapter and for me, I use a 12g extension cord.)

Thanks! It is very quiet. But the long hours of use for AC is, indeed, what gives me pause.

To answer MoonShadow, this is the gas F150 hybrid. 120VAC outlet on the back of the truck. Haven't looked at amperage yet (truck is only one day old!), but obviously would check specs before using.

Thanks, again, for relating your experiences.

I have the 7.2KW package. It will run our 5th wheel just fine but I have never tried to run both AC’s at the same time. The tuck has 30 amp outlet but it is a 4L-30 IIRC, I do have an adapter to connect it to the RV.
