    Basement Storage Bin

Anyone know what this storage bin is called or the part number is?
Mine has a crack where the circle is and is getting bigger.
Any tips or tricks on how to fix this?

Could you replace it with a homemade wood version for more strength?

A few years ago someone on here made a wooden version. Might find it if you use the search function. I hate those plastic bins, I only keep very light items in it.

I repaired ours using Q bond then replace the screw back in with a washer. Also a door threshhold strip over the edge protects it when taking bins out. I repaired it 3 years ago and it's still holding

I think cutting a piece of wood about 6" square placing it on the backside of the crack, and then run screws through the front side into the wood may work. Use fender washers on the screws. This should reinforce the area of the crack. I might also drill a hole at the bottom of the crack to prevent any more spread downward.

These storage trays are not built for much weight. I put fender washers on all the screws holding the tray in place to try to distribute some of the pressure on the screw holes.

If you want to replace it with the same thing, you can find the part number here (and can order parts directly from GD, now):

I would go with others' suggestions to make something sturdier, myself.

One of the first thing I did was to take the plastic bin out and then reinstalled it using flat washers everyplace there was a screw. It has held up well without any of the cracking that a lot of people get.

Fix it like others have said and most definitely put an "L" shaped aluminum angle over the top edge... sliding stuff in & out catches on the plastic tray and cracks it. I don't keep much heavy stuff on mine but I did put a piece of 1/2“ plywood on the bottom and covered it with automotive carpet. Here's the tray if you want to get a new one. And here's a link to a picture with the reinforced tray, plywood covered in carpet.

In the parts look up they are called saddle boxes. They are not designed to carry much weight. I did a full removal and repair write up when I reinforced mine. It could be here or over at the GD site

    Hope this helps.
