Thanks, I have the shorter F250 bed

    Good news
With the hitch head set to the rear most position you will find you don't need the turning point. Ford short beds are longer than the other brands. Most folks say they are fine. With the turning point hitch locked out the only thing to re learn is backing. Trailer will be a little slower to respond.

Give it a try - Good luck and safe travels.

Although I am not sure I fully understand this from my hitch paperwork, does it mean I a use the wedge system? (I still plan to discuss with my service shop and B&W)

    connections before towing.
WARNING: Towing a trailer without a functioning pivot point between the hitch & trailer will cause significant damage to the hitch which mav lead to serious injury or death. Some pin boxes such as a Pull-rite@ Superglide Capture Plate remove the pivot point between a trailer and coupler and should not be used, See Figure F1. Pin boxes with a wedge that relocates the pivot point such as a Reese® Sidewinde or Reese@ Revolution may be used, see Figure F2.

NO You do not use the wedge. Remove the wedge, and hopefully you still have your lockout bolts. Your dealer should have put them in the spots where the wedge was stored originally. Lock the turning point hitch in the center position by using the two lock out bolts. They go in the turning point head. Look for two bolt holes at the back bottom of the rotating plate. They may be the same bolts the wedge was installed with too - just not sure of that. Right now on my hitch there are two bolts holding the wedge in the storage position and two lock out bolts in the rotating part base.

    Thanks again
If one of the bolts was loose, the wedge most likely moved back. With the pin in the hitch, you should use a hammer and drive the wedge in until it stops. Then torque the bolts down. Too tight and you will have problems hooking/unhooking. Too loose and you will notice the condition you described.

You do not have a Patriot hitch. You have a Companion for OEM puck system hitch. I just looked at the work order to confirm it...

You may use a wedge with the Companion hitch. If it was loose, it could cause the movement you described.

You certainly are not the first B&W Companion hitch owner that is using the wedge and Turning Point hitch (or Sidewinder, etc)

I suspect there is a fitment issue between the wedge and hitch plate. Look for damage there. OR The bearing on the turning point is binding up causing the shift. With it disconnected from the truck does it swing freely. Last check you trailer axles for alignment as the trailer may be trying to track differently from the truck.

Sorry for the bad news. You can call B&W too as the have great customer service.
He has a Companion hitch for OEM mounts.

Thank you for checking. I don’t know how to post a picture but I am looking at the hitch now and it reads “The Patriot 18K by BP”

Do you have rails in the bed of the truck or the truck OEM puck system?

I shouldn't assume, but is your last name Coughlin?
