Website says dry weight is 7397. 1400 payload. That means I would need to add to TT 1604 lbs. Really? Do you haul gold or lead with you? LOL. I have 1400 lbs payload and 7397 dry weight According to my calculations, 8797 lbs is total. I would need to exceed in the TT 1598 lbs on the camper. Who does that? Let's have this conversation for the sake of others. I could be wrong. Thoughts?
my web name is huntindog because i train, hunt, and did AKC hunt tests, field trials etc.from 2005-2018 my brittanys have earned 5 Field championships, 4 amatuer field championships and 3 master hunt titles. we have qualified multiple dogs to run in the national championships most of those years. because of the cost, we only competed in 3 of those years. 2006,2014, we ran in the brittany national championships in iona micihigan, and 2016 the akc all breed national walking gundog championships in wasatch utah. we were pretty unique in that we walked in horseback , events and won them a lot. 31 wins and too many placements to count.

we started towing rvs in 1992. in the 13 years we were running brittanys in akc events our rv miles exploded. coupled with many bird hunting trips and big game hunts we know what works.

you state that will not tow with water, yet in your op were excited about the large size of the tanks. the two statements do not jibe. if water is avalible at your destination, then smaller tanks would work just fine. with my hunting experience, i can assure you that you will be towing with water..
this is not the first time i have seen someone come on a forum trying to convince themselves that their truck is up to the task. weight and size matter. when you are over weight, there is just no b.s.ing it up or down a mountain.

you have picked a nice tt. now you just need to decide what color your new truck will be

Hello from another Minnesotan. We spent 2 hours plowing and shoveling yesterday. More snow predicted this week. We have a hobby farm and we are really struggling with our normal spring prep. We can't get at a our equipment. I like snow but this has been quite the year!

We normally would have had our first camping weekend by now. We always plan an early trip someplace not more than 1.5-2 hours of home and make sure everything is working for the season. We had reservations for this Thurs-Sunday....we obviously canceled.

Welcome from yet another Minnesotan! Jealous, We are looking at retirement in May of 24. So ready for camping season to get here. Shakedown runs to a nearby campground are life savers. Got lucky and found a seasonal about 20 minutes away. Able to run through all the systems and work out the bugs before doing any longer trips that way.

Welcome to the forum. I had no idea there were so many people from Minnesota on here.

Best thing to do with the truck/trailer setup is load how you would for camping and find a CAT scale. Do a full weight and then do a truck only weight, you can drop the trailer in one of the big rig parking spots. Once you see your overall weight and tongue weight you can decide what's best.

Did you buy it yet even? If you bought it and have the documentation ,there is a sheet of paper in your bag that shows the true weight when it left the factory ,which will be higher than the number you posted
Then once batteries and propane are added it will increase at the dealer. So you can’t go by brochure base weights
I would guess that sheet of paper says the tongue weight is 820 ish. Maybe a little less. Then the dealer adds 100 pounds in gas and a battery, then the hitch weighs 70. We are now at 1000 pounds of tongue weight and you haven’t put any personal property in it yet
Now,is the 1400 payload off of the sticker on the drivers door of your Ram? The actual payload I will wager is lower Options you or the dealer have added to your truck take away from that

As far as stuff being put in the trailer well for me I like to have everything I need and a bit more
In my last trailer it had cargo issues so we had aluminum pots and pans and plastic plates and bowls for weight reduction
I don’t have that issue with my Imagine so we have heavy pots and pans and correll plates. Weight adds up but imo you are maxed out before you add anything for camping gear
Like I said only a weigh ticket will tell. But please don’t ever attempt to lighten the tongue weight of the trailer
It is safer to overload the Ram than under load the tongue

    Good luck
Yes, thanks. I traded in my trailer that was roughly 2000lbs lighter. Brought it home last Monday. Very windy crosswind that day and did fine. I actually got better gas mileage on the way home. Honestly, I do feel the weight more. What I've realized more than ever, is the rear axel gearing is critical. Without the 3.92:1 I couldn't do it.

Amazed that I didn't have to push the Hemi 5.7. When traveling in mountains, I will be extra cautious.

For our first trailer, I knew nothing. I watched a million videos and read many articles. Then, we went on a 3 week trip and found out that there is nothing like experience to prepare. Enjoy.
