Shower Door Shattered During Winter Storage

I just picked my 303RLS trailer from storage and upon enterering it prior to hook up I notice the left side glass panel stattered (corner shower) sometime over the winter. Has anyone had a shower door shatter while the trailer is stationary for 5 months?

I'm going to submit a warranty claim and see how GD responds.

Yes I had mine shatter but it was not over the winter - it happened last fall with the unit parked in between camping trips (found it when I went to prep for a trip) - Grand Design replaced in under warranty with no issues. I rigged up a shower rod and curtain until the new door came in.

Were either of you able to determine what caused the glass to break?

I found a screw had fallen out of one of the upper rollers, and a second one was loose. If the other would have fallen out, the glass door would have twisted and fractured. Just wondering if that may have been your issues.

I used a bit of blue Loc-Tite on the screws, hand tightened, and have not had them loosen again.

No, I don’t know what might have caused it. I’ve never checked the roller screws. I just attributed it to expansion of the aluminum and glass….. just a guess.

I just received a response from GD. Glass shattering of any kind is not covered by warranty as there is no way to determine what happened.
I understand the logic, but, not thrilled with their position. They indicated that if a manufacturer defect can be determined that a goodwill repair might be made.
How can you determine a manufacturer defect when the door is in a million pieces.

You can't and GD knows it. They are telling you to go pound sand.

In all fairness, Grand Design can't rely on someone's word that they didn't simply leave the doors loose while traveling, and they were broken. People tend to be notoriously unreliable.

My glass doors never shattered, but I removed them and replaced them with a curtain. I left the tracks in place in the event I decided I didn't like it. Now, after a season (2022) using the curtain, my wife and I both prefer the curtain. I didn't think I would like the curtain, but i was wrong. It makes the bathroom feel bigger. Not to mention, if it gets dirty, for $5 I can get a new one. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays...=searchResults

I will say, although the curtain had weights at the bottom, I added some heavier coated magnet weights to prevent billowing inward.

Bottom line, the curtain is a cheap, easy fix while you consider your options. Who knows, after using it for a bit, you may even prefer it.
