Memory Foam Mattress in a RV
We need a new mattress and I would like a memory foam one, however, my wife says they will deteriorate from freezing over the winter. Wondering if any one who has a memory foam mattress can tell us about your experience. Have you had any trouble? or do they work fine?

We head out for 5 months in our trailer each year. I look so forward to my memory foam mattress each trip.

We had a mem foam mattress and it lasted about 7 yrs then it started to split in a couple spots. It did see a couple winters (spent the rest of the winters in FL) but don't think the cold did anything more than make the mattress stiffer until it warmed up. We now have a hybrid, either is much heavier than the oem mattress and you will need stronger bed struts if you want the bed to stay raised to get under, or a stick works too to hold it up.

Our mattresses don't see freezing conditions since we're full-time, but we've never used anything but foam mattresses in our RVs (none of them are 100% memory foam, though - that's not practical). Anyway, if you go foam, you need to use something like this under it to prevent condensation and any risk of mold:

Relatively mild winters here in NC, but mine stays out in a storage lot during the winter and has had plenty of exposure to freezing temps. Our memory foam mattress is about 3 years old with no issues so far.

No issues in two years here in MN. Camper stays in unheated machine shed in winter and temps below zero quite a bit.

Never a problem in more than 15 years using a memory foam topper in a winter climate.

We replaced our sealy with a Dreamfoam Essential 10" from Brooklyn Bedding. Love it. Both of us have bad backs and this did the trick. We had the 3" memory foam topper on the original but didn't offer enough support. Never had any issues over the winter with any memory foam.
