Flanged crush nuts? You mean flanged lock nuts? A good hardware store should have them, or a place like Fastenal, or Graingers. Maybe even a trailer parts place, although they would likely be more expensive.

I had the same problem and fixed it by rotating the "bad" bolts for the holes to be in the 3:00 and 9:00 position. If they are aligned at 12:00 and 6:00, there can be too much pressure on the holes. That's why jacking up the trailer to take the weight off the bolts is a good work-around for the holes not being properly aligned. While you won't be able to see the holes, rotating the bold 90 degrees (either way) should do the trick.

No. I just loosened the nut to back out the bolt a quarter-inch or so to get past the grooves holding it in position while tightening. Then turned it 90 degrees, pounded the bolt back into position and torqued the nut to specs.

Cool, some people may not be aware the bolt has splines.

Had same experience, figured loosen nut and turn bolt. I loosened the nut and the threads came off. And thanks to this forum I now know why the bolt would not turn due to the splines. Was leaving for a trip that day so found a regular nut that fit. I believe the nuts are 1/2 fine thread. Can someone confirm? Also anyone know the torque spec so I can put on a new nut and torque it? Thanks.

Yes, mine were 1/2-20 fine thread, but I would use a flange lock nut, not a regular nut. Maybe a regular nut with lock nut, but a flange lock nut would be my preference.
