    Grease the shackle bolts

Was able to grease all the leaf spring connections on my 287 RLTS except for 3 of the end shackles (see picture). Any trick to getting those done?

    Thanks.

Lots of thread here bout this exact thing. You can probably search "grease" and find some of those threads. An alternative is to use a google search on "mygrandrv.com grease" (without quotes). Sometimes google does a better job.

Mostly point to a clamp on type grease gun tip and taking the weight off the spring.

    Others will soon comment too.....

I had one that wouldn't take grease no matter what I did. I had to remove the weight from the shackle and remove the bolt. The grease hole was blocked. Once it was cleaned out and reinstalled the grease could get through. You can start by removing the fitting to make sure its passing grease. Good luck!

Depending on what shackles and wetbolts you have, the nuts are one use parts… Or are supposed to be, so I would not pull it if you dont have too. I would get the weight off the shackle and see if it takes grease. If not, then pulling it is the only option. Depending on how many miles are on the rig, you might find the hole is plugged with dirt, grime, and or dust from the bushing wearing out and filling the hole.

Some remove the bolts and reuse the bolt and nut for the shackle, I could not on my Momentum, because when the nut came off, so did the threats in the nut, so not useable again. Thankfully I had spares, so that I could put it back together.

    Good luck

So, what is the best way to remove weight off the shackle? Jack up the frame or the axle?

Normally how high? Wheel off the ground? Or slowly keep raising until bolt can come out?

wish I could tell you exact amount. On mine I didn’t have to even get the wheel of the ground, just need it to not be carrying the entire weight. Other times I have needed the tire off the ground. My suggestion is raise it the least amount needed to get the pressure off the bolt and try to fill it .
