2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and an Imagine 2670mk
Ok, so I have been lurking for a while and have used a lot of great tips and advice from these forums.
Today I bring a question often asked and debated, but I wanted to get all of your takes on what I would like to do. I would like to buy a 2670MK and tow it with my 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4...
I have used the calculator at changingears.com, and it seems to be within the acceptable range. Here are the numbers:
GVWR 7100
TC 9100
F/RGAWR 3800
TVTW 5820
-- Steer Axle 3260
-- Drive Axle 2620
Tires are LT275/65R - 18 Wrangler Duratrac C rated
My truck does not seem to have the typical sticker on it giving the specifications that I usually see, but it does have a sticker that lists GAWR per axle. The TVTW is fully loaded for the road, with a full tank, with only me in the truck from a CAT scale. I do plan to potentially have 1 other occupant at times, so need to leave margin for that person and accoutrement (200lbs total).
So a couple of questions -
--Am I right that the 2670MK, even fully burdened at max trailer capacity 8495lbs and an 11% HW (935) is safe from a numbers standpoint?
--With the 2670MK being rear heavy, what steps would I need to take to mitigate any funkiness in the ride? (Thinking about a Hensley Hitch)
--What questions am I not asking myself that I should be? (I do plan on upgrading the truck to a 2500HD at some point, just not right now)
Couple of other notes - I tend to travel light, so max weight is very, very unlikely for me. I also a religious about emptying tanks at or as close to the site as possible. I do not travel with much water, at most 1/3 tank down highways if I know I am going to get in late and want the option of hooking up or filling up in the morning.
Last question - I chose the 2670MK because it gives a work station, table, entertainment and closeable bedroom, each separate from one another. I have been looking for something lighter with these 4 (even if I have to take out something like a second sofa and add a desk) - any suggestions on something lighter if this setup is a no go?Disabled Seabee Veteran

Take your truck to the CAT scale. I'm guessing it's around 6000 lbs with you in it. GVWR 7100 doesn't leave a ton of headroom.

The CAT weight, fully loaded for travel, full fuel and me in it is 5820. Just ran it over the scales yesterday. The steer and drive axle split is listed above.

I would never attempt to tow a trailer bigger then my 2400 bh with my Sierra and I have more payload available than you do
A 2400 bh is the max for 1/2 ton
2670 is 3/4 ton and up2021 Imagine 2400 BH

Not sure I follow, I am rated at 2120lbs payload dry.
Loaded for the road I have 1280lbs available before top end, minus 200 for my petite travel partner on occasion and her "essentials". That leaves 1080lbs available on the truck as long as it is distributed correctly. A maxed 2670mk at 11-12% on the tongue seems to be within the math.
Understand that I am not sold on this, I am trying to understand why not and what am I missing? I have done some snooping and browsing and the consensus seems to be don't do it... what I am trying to understand is why?? So a blanket "2670mk and half ton don't mix" won't answer the question for me. Because if a 2670mk is off the table, then wouldn't a 2500RL and 2600RB also be off the table?
I have towed my 2400bh near its limit (7850lbs, 800+ HW) across the country almost like it isn't behind me, have no concerns being able to stop and am not seeing how another ~150lbs on the hitch would drastically change that.
Can you be more specific?Disabled Seabee Veteran

With that much payload dry, I think you're within the realm of the possible. I have less payload than you do and tow a 2600RB with my 2016, which has a shorter WB than your 2021. It tows exceptionally well with Load range E tires, Roadmaster Active Suspension, and ProPride. My next truck will for sure be a 2500 or 3500, but I'm in no hurry to buy one just now. I did a 4000 mile round trip last summer with this setup and it far exceeded my expectations.

My Sierra has the tow package with the 3.42 axle and I definitely know my 2400 is behind me
It tows perfectly like it is on a rail but the truck definitely knows it is there. But I also live on the east coast where there is lots of hills
The 2670 weighs almost 1000 lbs more. Go for it if you feel it works but I can guarantee you will be over GVWR Will it matter? That is up to you
Imo the length and weight of a 2400 is max2021 Imagine 2400 BH
