    Learned Something Yesterday...Thought I'd Share.

On Saturday I replaced the coolant surge tank in my truck. It had a slow leak. To do so you have to remove the passenger side battery.
The OEM replacement fit fine and the project was completed in about 90 minutes.

Monday morning I took the truck in to get a smog certificate and it failed the test.
The technician asked if I had disconnected the battery recently? Well, yes I did just two days earlier.
Apparently when you remove the battery it clears the emissions codes from the computer and the testing equipment generates a "Fail".

Luckily, all I have to do is complete a "Drive Cycle" (about 150 to 200 miles) and all the sensors will send their codes back to the computer and I should be able to get a "Pass" so I can pay my registration for my truck. The re-test will cost me an extra $25. Oh well......Lesson learned.

You more seasoned folks may have already known about this but it was new to me.

That's one of the questions our battery test center asks before they even start the test. "Have you disconnected the battery recently?"
