    Anode Rod For Water heater

Good afternoon. My water heater doesn't have an anode rod, just the nylon plug. this would suggest that the tank is probably aluminum or plastic, right? Has anyone replaced the nylon plug with an anode rod? I drained the water heater over the winter but am about to do the first flush on it. Any guidance on this is appreciated. Thanks.

Im pretty sure their aluminum, and you can't add an anode. At least not on mine.
As for flushing, this is what I use and it works as advertised. Camco 11691 RV Water Heater Tank Rinser https://a.co/d/2Ys4ZhP

Oh, I also got this kit. This wrench is able to access the plug easier, and the kit comes with extra plugs. Camco 11633 RV Water Heater Drain Plug and Wrench Kit , Black https://a.co/d/gp4sqK3

If your tank is aluminum there is no need for an anode rod. They are there to be sacrificed in steel tanks instead of the tanks themselves.

I'm pretty sure the tanks without anode rods have a cap since the WH has male threads (at least this was the case on my Reflection). The WHs using anode rods have female threads. This could be done so you don't put an anode rod in (just guessing here), and yes, the ones without anodes are aluminum tanks with nylon caps.

And you don’t want to try and thread the steel anode rod into the aluminum tank, very easy to cross thread and damage the tank

Sounds god! I was hoping that I didn't need to get a rod for it. It appears that I missed having a tankless WH by one model year....LOL.
    thanks for all the info!

The nylon plug strips easily, so replaced with a water line and drain valve.

Very nice! I'll look into doing this in the future. Sure would save having to remove the plug errytime, to drain.

I replaced that nylon plug with a brass one that had a built-in drain valve like this one, https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Inch-11...%2C1632&sr=8-3

Easier to winterize and didn't worry about the nylon cracking/breaking.
