    New GMC 3500 Dually

Looking at getting a GMC 3500 Dually (2024). Wondering what kind of mileage folks are getting - especially when pulling a 310GK-R. Thanks!

MPGs and towing really do not belong in the same discussion. The better it pulls, the less MPGs you get.

    I got about 8 on average when I had a 23 Silverado 3500 DRW pulling a Momentum 398.

It's rather like an old saying in yachting: "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." Folks don't usually buy a capable tow vehicle and worry about fuel mileage (and there are several threads on the forum on this topic).

That said, having dual rear wheels makes little difference in mileage given the same drive train. It's the gearing, frontal area of the trailer (the same for most Solitudes), total weight, winds and grades that affect fuel mileage the most. Our truck is a Ford DRW, CC, LB witht he 6.7 diesel, a 3.73 rear end and a six-speed transmission. I've gotten as much as 11 MPG (flat, no wind) and as little as 4 MPG (6% grades and/or 40 MPH headwinds). I'd say the eight-year average with two diesel trucks towing two different fifth wheels is around 10 MPG.

I have a new '23 Chevy 3500 SRW Dmax with 3,000 miles on it. First pull yesterday for 400 miles, and averaged 9.7 mpg at just under 70 mph. Should improve slightly with more miles. The dually should be that or slightly less. The question is if there is going to be any real difference with the new reworked engine in the '24.

Yeah, towing the Solitudes and Momentum 5ers with a 1 ton dually or single, all the big three diesels get about the same mileage, average 8-9-10 mpg depending on the terrain. But its the right tool for the job. For example, We just towed our Solitude on I10 and up I25 from El Paso to Albuquerque, think lots of up grades in the mountains - averaged 7-8 mpg. Low flat lands straight towing with cruise control 10 mpg. But again our 1 ton dually is the right tool for the job and we're hauling @ 16,000 pounds. And yes it hurt a little filling up at a Love's truck stop on I25 and pumping in $100 for diesel, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Truck computer says around 9, but it’s usually a few tenths better than the computer when I check it. We are 25k lbs total.

We have found on our last 2 trucks the mileage does get better as you put more miles on it. At first you will think this is not right, but it does get better.

We have a reflection 311bhs and tow it with a 3500 SRW Duramax. I get a between 8-10 mpg it depends on the terrain and wind, I always seem to have a head wind.
