Are satellite internet latency time short enough for using internet phone?

I am thinking about getting satellite internet like Hugesnet or Viasat. Which one has shorter latency time? Is the latency time too long that it will affect conversation on internet phone? I worry that if there is too much delay, you can miss the conversation.

    Thanks

Yes, but they talk about satellite internet. makes sense as you can't use wired internet if you drive the RV around.

    Valid question.

You won’t miss any of the conversation.

IF you are talking to someone on the other side of the planet, you might have to pause a couple of seconds between the two of you talking.

The big risk is insufficient bandwidth.

As long as you don’t overload it, you won’t notice anything.

If you cram two computers, the cell phones, the grandkids’ video games and leave your wi-fi gateway open to all and sundry, you would start to suffer audio drop-outs or jitter, as it approaches overload.

A simple reboot will fix it.

Just make sure the bandwidth you purchase is two or three times your expected usage.

To find your current usage, check your cell phone bill and your home internet provider’s bill.

Multiply that by two and purchase that much data.

The other major consideration is transfer speed - the faster, the better..

    50 mb/s is adequate, 100 mb/s is better, 1000 mb/s is probably overkill.

Also... Hughes Net has been known to have issues with VPN service - if thats a requirement?

I have Starlink, 29ms-62ms latency, 100+ mbps down, 10-12 mbps up, with no data caps.

That is as good as a lot of home systems.

The downside is $120/month. But my only options are DSL @ 2.8mbps or Hughes/Viasat that drops out with a hint of rain. Starlink powers through all but the heaviest of downpours.

Why not Starlink? No availability where you are?
