    Don't loosen them! They are meant to be a friction hinge. I use silicone spray on mine, once. They walked out with use. I'll not do that again.

    Most importantly to me, they won't "walk" as you use them. If you put them out with a vertical brackets vertical, after using them for a time, they will walk themselves out to full extension. That makes the trade slope at an angle instead of being flat.

    Loosening the steps... it's a fine art to get the steps all the same. We did have to loosen once in the several years we had ours because the steps were getting way to tight even after a spray with CRC. First attempt was way to loose , but got it right the 2nd try.

    If I remember correctly( I would question that) on the side of the steps there are instructions on how to adjust them.
