    Underbed Storage

    We added a mattress topper and the original gas struts were no longer strong enough to lift the lid for the underbed storage.

    After doing some research on here I went for 150lb 20" struts. I've installed only one just to see how is and now the weakest part is the flexing of the plywood lid. Effort to raise and lower seems OK.

    I guess the new strut is too strong? Or the lid is rubbish and everyone upgrades theirs? MDF? Something else? Or is there a simple solution to this I am not seeing?

    Looks like your support is too far back towards the hinge, and the OSB is bending. Try moving the support closer to the end of the bed.

    There is also the option of putting 1 by stringers under the platform to add stiffness. Just make sure if you use screws you don't use screws that will poke through the platform.

    No pics, but they are not important as you need to trial and error it, as your mattress is likely different than mine.

    Thanks for the replies! We got it solved by installing 80lb 20" struts that go into the existing factory brackets - they just snap in. I guess the stock ones were 40lb. Now works well with an 8" Helix RV queen mattress and topper.

    Were did you get the 80lb that just snap in? Always looking for the easy way, work smarter not harder.
