Your repair description with pictures was great! Looking forward to update on installation.

Somewhere I saw a post where the owner actually drilled the hole through the square outside trim piece and filled it with a rubber plug. While it would be faster access to the retaining screw, I feel your method would be less invasive and look better. It's not like we are needing to get to this screw very often (hopefully).

Thanks dryfly … I agree the untouched corner piece leaves no trace of an earlier repair. Did you buy the 5’ harness on Amazon or elsewhere ? I think that’s a smart thing to add to my own RV tool kit (next to a spare motor ;-)

Yes, got it off Amazon. I had about 25 ft of spare cable so I just needed the connectors. I took the 5' harness, cut it in the middle, and spliced in the 25' cable, also splicing in 2 short pigtails on the 12vdc pos and neg wires. This allows me to use the entire cable if I need a replacement, or the ability to apply 12vdc to the the pigtails if I only need to test a motor.

Used this exact process 2-3 years ago. Didn't take pictures or really document the work. Kind of in an anger induced frenzy at the time. Early models are subject to wire/connection fatigue due to lack any strain relief where wiring attaches to motor. Safe Travels.

    Thanks dryfly and Capt Jim.
I observed no issues with the wiring harness however I did note a dab of hot melted glue on the black cap on top of the motor which I suspect was put there to strain relief the harness. I’ll pay attention to what kind of strain relief on the harness on the new motors when they arrive.

We had a complete schwinteck failure over 3 years ago and gd and lippert stepped up and replace the entire slide mechanism out of warranty.

Ever time we extend or retract the slide i push on it to help it along and to feel if anything is wrong.

When retracting the slide, my wife pushes the button, while i push hard on the outside.

One, it gives it a little extra horsepower, two i can feel all the vibrations in the motors and gear mechanisms, I listen to the motors, and if they are struggling i immediately investigate, inspecting the gears, tracks and motors as well as the floor and the rollers underneath.

The condition of the slide floor is really important, any water intrusion will really affect the performance of the slide.

There are hundreds of things that can go wrong in these slides but taking the time during every extend and retract is an opportunity to really understand the state of the slide. Understand how they work, so when something goes wrong, and it will eventually, you are prepared.

The slide failure was one of our first problems with our 310gk and it taught me to pay attention to every groan the rv makes.

I hopes this helps somebody, I am reliving a nightmare while getting an infusion, so i have 6 hours to post.haha

    Quick update…

My two new motors I ordered on Amazon arrived yesterday afternoon…
I ordered them using link provided by user nprario in an earlier post on this same thread.

They look to be of good quality, came well packaged, and look to identical dimension of my original, but with a nice thick heat shrink cover over top 2/3 of the motor.

Here are a few pictures of the new motors and one comparing new and old motors. I’ll be following up with another update on the install of these new motors and what the condition of the second original motor being replaced as well looks like.
