    Question Towing a XLS 22RBE

I'm looking at the Imagine XLS 22RBE (published numbers are 6995 GVWR, 5125 EW, and empty tongue weight of 497). If I figure a max TW @ 15% of GVWR, that would put it at 1049 lbs. of TW. My payload on my F150 is 1736 so that takes up more than I feel comfortable with. I haven't seen what the actual TW of an EMPTY RBE is vs the published weight posted anywhere. Can anybody with a XLS 22RBE tell me what your real tongue weights are - both empty and loaded and at what load? With just me and my wife, I don't see us using the full cargo capacity of the RBE, but I'd like some feed back from people actually towing the RBE with a 1/2 ton before I take the plunge. Don't bother suggesting a 3/4 ton instead - that's not an option - would have to go down the the XLS MKE.

Just for the record my tow vehicle: 2022 F150 3.5 EcoBoost 4WD 145” Wheelbase, 3.55 Gears, GVWR 7050, 53A tow package, Maximum GCWR 16,900 lbs., Maximum loaded trailer weight 11,300 lbs., Max payload 1736 lbs.

Your numbers should work fine for that truck and trailer. I think you'll have a tough time putting 500lbs of extra weight on the tongue as compared to the EW. I doubt you'll ever get to 15% TW on that trailer but that's fine. Anything between 10-15% is the goal.

Thanks for your input. I'm not so much concerned about getting to that 15%, but I'm more curious about what the real TW is to begin with. I expect the TW to naturally go up once I add the full propane, batteries, trailer contents, water (if dry camping.) If I look at the ratio of TW to empty weight, my calculations say the MAX TW would only be about 680 lbs. I just don't want to run into one of those horror stores where someone buys trailer expecting a 500lb tongue weight, only to find the actual UNLOADED weight was eight or nine hundred pounds. I'm a first-time RV buyer, but I know sometimes the published numbers from manufacturers bear little resemblance to the real-world numbers - like "towing capacity" on a truck.

For most of GD's travel trailers (excluding the toy haulers), loaded tongue weights usually come in around 12 - 13% of loaded weight.

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t feel comfortable with a 1000 plus tw
The heavier you can make the tw the better towing experience
I intentionally load up my front under bed storage with very heavy items as well as my pass through to achieve 900 plus pounds of tw

I think you can realistically expect between 800 and 900 lbs. your truck can handle that with plenty of payload to spare.

Your truck has this no problem. Even at 1k tongue you still have 700 and change payload. Look into axle weight ratings and tire weight ratings too. You are fine.

Your TT numbers are like mine. It's not the same floor plan, though so my tw might not match yours. Loaded for a trip including ~1/3 fresh and 2 bikes in the back, we usually are usually around 6,200 lbs with 760 TW (12.5% as @Second Chance mentioned). I have a F150 but the 2.7EB with 1460 tw. I'm very close to my towing capacities but towes just fine. Get a good WDH.

I have a 2018 F150 built exactly like your truck and I have a 2020 22RBE. It has 2 lead acid batteries and 2 filled LP tanks. It is just my wife and I and we have the usual items in the camper. I use plastic tubs to separate my gear in the pass-through storage and it is fairly full. I agree with redapple that you can expect 800 to 900 pounds of tongue weight. You can have less if you had maybe only one battery or one LP tank or maybe have less gear. I don’t think I ever got to 1000 pounds but 800 to 900 is normal for us. I use a WeighSafe weight distribution hitch and it has been a perfect set up for us.
    Happy trails to you!

    I tow a 2019 22RBE with my 2018 F150 same as your truck. It tows better then the 2001 F350 I had.
I installed sumo 1000lb springs and I use an Anderson hitch setup. I also replaced my gas tank with a 45 gallon transfer flow replacement tank.
