    Lake Michigan, MI coast trip

Planning a trip for September, maybe early October time frame to the Lake Michigan coast for 2 weeks.
We could of course go all the way up to Traverse City area, but that'll take us 3 days from E. Tennessee, so I'd like to see what might be a nice place to land that we can drive to in 2 days, so more SW and Central Michigan. I know there are many great beaches and town all along the coast - I lived there when I was a toddler but it's been many years.

We really enjoy wineries, when we can fit it in, but nice weather, beaches, and hiking are the better draws. We'll definitively go after Labor day, so not too worried about crowds by then.

On these very general parameters, what's a good destination or two?

There are campgrounds around Michigan City. Check out the Indiana State Dunes on the southern tip of Lake Michigan. Beautiful campground and excellent sites. The beach is spectacular.

As someone struggling to find reservations where I want to go living in Michigan, book now, they're few and far in between. I got my unit in January and feel like my entire season is already shot and can't find a single thing where I'd like to go.

If looking for a great place in mid-south MI to camp reasonably, we just stayed at Shamrock RV Park at Berrien Springs MI. A 1 month long stay was only $500 bucks which for MI is a pretty darn good rate. Nice location and reasonably priced to camp in MI in our opinion.

Assuming things will open up after Labor day, but apparently not! Hopefully we can find something. If not, we'll go elsewhere.

Looks like some places do clear out after Labor day, after all.
Found a nice CG in South Haven, mid September.
    Thanks for the info everyone!
