    Front cap separating from sidewall

    Hi,

Well, we uncovered a big problem when we were washing our rig last night and I was hoping for some advice from some with more knowledge and experience than I please. We have a 2021 2400BH and found that the passenger sidewall is separating from the front cap at the top of the trailer (about where the spout starts) and down to the front (pics attached). I do not know how long it has been like this as I didn't see it had separated when I first went over the trailer when I de-winterized, but guaranteed water has gotten in there and it isn't good.

Earliest anyone may be able to even look at it would be August, so my question is how to I patch this up now and is it something that would prohibit using the trailer? I was originally thinking of taping with some EternaBond as I would presume that it would at least stick. I also had considered caulking it, but I'm not overly certain if that is the right play. Further could continued driving and use cause it to separate more? We are in Colorado and travel is not always paved. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions anyone may have. Thank you.

    Ken

Sorry for your rough start with a new trailer. I would be tempted to use a good caulk made for RV's such as Geocel and try to seal the gap as well as possible by forcing the caulk into the seam with a tool or even a wet finger. Then keep an eye on it to see if it keeps separating until you can get it to repair facility. This might get you though the camping season without more damage. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try to find some Geocel and see if I can fill the gap that way.

2ND on the caulking. I would not use Eternabond except in an emergency. Your right, it will stick - and is VERY hard and messy to get it off to do a more permanent repair. I can't imagine using the RV would cause any issue.

Your first move is to reach out to Grand Design Service and open a case number (if your dealer hasn't already done so) should the issue be covered under the 3 year structural warranty. GD may also advise of another dealer, mobile repair, or the best means of temporary fix.

Looks to me like you lost the molding/trim designed to conceal the joint.

What does the other side look like?
I'd get in touch with GD customer service and send them those pics.

If you are trying to fix it quickly, I would pull the vinyl screw cover out of that corner trim molding and see what is going on. There are a bunch of tech screws that should be holding that corner together. Back them out and see if you can push in on the corner and re-attach them.

Something is going on, but it could be an easy fix.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will reach out to Grand Design to see what they have to say before I do anything.

I had to take the camper back to storage, but I will take more of a look this weekend to see if I can determine anything further and will see about the screws.

    Thanks everyone.
