Thread: Propane Troubleshooting Question

It is unlikely that it's the red regulator. Most of the failures have been due to the check valve, but I also encountered a couple of bad pigtail connectors. There is a check valve in the system on the curb side, but there is not one on the driver's side. Actually, the check valve is a redundant feature anyway because all modern propane pigtails have a check valve installed.

Thanks, Rob. I think that missing check valve might be my problem as well. May be awhile before I can check it out, but thanks.

I have just started having the same problem after the system working properly for over two years. Tried swapping bottles with no joy. Will try swapping pigtails today and go from there. This seems to be pretty common problem and I hope it is not turning into another grease seal issue with the manufacturers showing little interest in a proper resolution?

Do the tanks switch automatically? If so, is there a certain setting on the knob that points to either tank? Sorry for the newbie question, just picked mine up yesterday.

They do switch automatically if you have both tank valves open. Then you need to check occasionally to see if the Red flag is displayed on the switch under the plastic tank cover. If it is you then close the used tank valve that the lever is pointed to and then change the lever to the other tank which will be the one it is being drawn from already. You refill the first tank (now empty),replace it and open the valve. Do not switch the lever though. Go through the same process when tank two runs out of propane. Some people choose to use this system with one tank open at a time so they know when it is empty without looking at the indicator, but then you risk running out of propane during the night or while cooking, and having to switch the levers at that time. Your choice...

Since the topic of the need for the high pressure regulator on the curb side came up a few times I did some research.
NFPA 1192, one of the standards mandated by the RVDA certification, requires a pressure be limited to 30psi within 60 inches of the tank.
I couldn’t find a why for the requirement, just the thall shall do it.
NFPA 1192 5.3.11.2 Propane systems shall be regulated to a pressure of 30psi (207 kPa) within 60in (1.5m) of the container outlet.
Based on this regulation the starboard side needs a high pressure regulator, port side since it is next to the two stage regulator does not.Colan and Marilyn Arnold

Curb side propane issue(near full tank, but regulator shows red-empty)
Completed the same repair as post#116 Gigem
Replaced small valve at regulator, line coming from curb side. Regulator now shows green from curb side. Success!
