    axle recall

Didn't see this recall posted anywhere. Canadian website only lists 3 models but perhaps the recall is more extensive?. My 293 has 5200lb axles but the gvwr is 11995lbs. Does this mean my trailer is on the recall list?

    Hi Paul,

I don't think your 293 would be involved. (Our similar weight 303 has 5200 lb axles and is not involved).
By the time you got to 12,000 GVWR, 2500 lbs or more would be carried by the tow vehicle, leaving 9,500 lbs to be carried by 10,400 axle capacity.
BTW, I think it would be difficult to load 3000 lbs of stuff on to your 293, (GVWR - dry weight) particularly if you tow with empty tanks.

I agree with Bob. Manufacturers now seem to rely on between 15 and 20% pin weight at gross to keep the axles within limits. OK I guess but it makes me appreciate our old Titanium a bit more with its 5K axles and a GVWR of just over 10K. I've gone to 7k springs on our 303. Tried to order it with 6 K axles but GD wasn't interested. This gives me an extra inch clearance for my 16 inch wheels and greatly reduces the need to block the heavy side in order to level the trailer.

Nick and Nancy, I had the same thought about HD axles in the past. The downside is ride will be rough and hard on contents and structure. The possibility of overloading could resonate to the next weakest link in the RV's structure, possible frame issues!

We wondered about that as well but after 3000 miles of towing, (some it over questionable roads) we haven't noticed any difference in the way contents are effected. We didn't go to heavier springs in order increase load capacity.

Question - my rig is on the recall list. Is the recall for 6000 lb labels placed on 5200 lb axles or is it for actual 5200 lb axles, labeled as such, on rigs that should have 6000 lb axles. I have checked my rig and it has labels marked as 6000 lb on both axles.

I haven't heard of the axle being mis-labeled. Only the wrong axle installed. So you are probably good to go.
