What if the battery is dead for hydraulic lifts

Guys, just a quick hypothetical. If I have my 5vr in storage for a few weeks and the battery runs out, I assume the hydraulics which operate the jacks are powered by the batteries will not work? How would I retract the front jacks so I may go and have a merry time at the beach?

You plug into your truck and listen to a couple of tunes. I've had this happen where I attempted to raise the landing gear prior to the battery recharging and it blows the fuse on my truck, F250, that sends power to the plug. I usually give it a minimum of 15 minutes before I attempt to raise the jacks. If you hear the jacks slow down a bit, STOP what you're doing and go listen to the radio again.

If you have an onboard gen. then the truck should be able to provide enough power to start gen. then use hydraulics.

Thx guys. I do not have a generator so I guess listening to tunes is fine. Also I assume over the winter when it is stored I should take a battery our and have it on a trickle charge?

The only way that a battery will discharge in storage is if there are some loads still drawing power.
A fully charged battery, disconnected from all loads, will stay charged for months.
I put my boat in storage for 4 months with no shore power. The batteries are at about 80% after that time.
There is no need to remove the battery . . . just make sure that it is completely disconnected. (just remove the negative battery cable)
If your battery is going dead, solve the parasitic loads that are causing this.

The reason they put a battery cut off switch in RV's is to keep the battery charged. After the switch is cut off, the landing gear is all that's "hard wired" to the battery. That way, any items left on in the trailer by mistake like light bulbs, fridges, etc. will not draw down your battery to the point that the landing gear won't work.

I do keep jumper cables in my truck that can be used to lift the landing gear with a battery run down. (My diesel also has 2 engine batteries--one of which can be removed.)

With the OEM battery switch in the off position, on my Reflection 303RLS, in addition to the landing gear, the front compartment light and the outside LEDs over the pin box are still powered up. Also, the carbon monoxide detector (I think). I have installed a 100% everything off battery switch. Leaving the landing gear and the pin box light with outside switch, powered up in storage . . . just seems like asking for trouble.

I left my 303 for over 3.5 months over the winter with the battery switch disconnected and it still had plenty of power when I decided to use it. However, being a fisherman I always have an extra battery and jumper cables available somewhere in my truck. Once, at a dealer, they didn't disconnect and left an interior light on and I just connected to the truck and soon had it working.

Jerry from GD told me you can burn out your landing gear motor if you lower the gear without plenty of charge in your battery.
