    Time for New Tires

I need to get new tires for my 5th wheel. I've read the discussion threads on here about the various tires. I was going to go with the same one's on the rig 235/80r16 Endurance tires I believe. Is this still a valid option? Or are there other tires I can take a look at, or should buy? Any input would be great!

    Thanks!

That's what I would do. I'll be replacing my endurance tires with the same sometime this year. Your trailer is about a 1000# heavier than ours but still well within the capability of the tire.

With 16" rims it would be easy to move up to LTs.That is what I have done in the past with great success. 16' LTs is what millions of pickups use. That means there is a vast selection of tires to choose from. Due to the govt. test requirements being substantially more stringent for LTs, it means that the worst LT is better than any ST.

I read the article and totally disagree, based on limited first hand experience, about the claim of the superior strength of ST tires' sidewall. But that's JMO of course. And lots of references to "professionals" opinions. "Professional" what? And perhaps it's just the bad taste ST tires left from the early part of the last decade.

I don't think there would be any argument about the "last decade" of ST tires and the "bad taste", but let's face it....time moves on, technology improves, and there is a reason the RV manufacturers use ST tires instead of the LT on their rigs. We are both old enough to remember (me especially) the days that ST tires were almost all junk and it was a crapshoot as to which one to buy or stay away from. There are a lot more choices now, speed ratings have gone up on many of the ST tires, and there are tires out there that are really good for their intended purpose. I think of my Sailuns, and I always hear a lot of good things about the Hercules (forgot which model), and to be honest, my Westlake "G" rated tires were excellent tires on my Momentum.....the "E" rated ones though, not so much.

One really important thing has not changed:
The minimum govt. test requirements. Until that does all one can can say for sure is that LTs are REQURIED by law to meet a more stringent standard. The rest is marketing, opinions and real life experiences.

Airstream used to put Michelin LT tires on their upper end units. Now they use GY Endurance. FWIW
I put Sailun's on my TT since they cost less than the Endurance. G rated but air down for the weight of the TT. 235/80/16

With 16" wheels and a 13,995 lb. GVWR, this is what I would do - and did do on our Reflection 337. We're on our second set of Saluns and have had excellent service from them.
