    Rain Protection? Maxxair Fan

We're just about to pull the trigger on one of these but have questions for those that already have one...
    https://www.amazon.com/Maxxair-00070...s%2C114&sr=8-4

When open, does it provide protection from rain as well as the covered vents do?

When closed, is it sealed closed like a normal vent?

    Thanks.

    Hi Chad, Skip again.

We had two installed when we picked up our 23LDE. We've only been out in the rain once, but: (1) When open in the rain, it seems like it's actually better than the factory vent with a Maxx Air vent cover (which is what we had installed originally, and what we've had, with Fantastic Fans, on our past RVs). The holes point mostly downward, so it's hard for me to imagine how rain drops could be sucked upward into the flow. Maybe it's possible if one had the fan on its highest level and it was a horizontal driving rain, but even then it would be better than the other option. (2) We've driven in the rain at freeway speeds with the vents closed and nothing came through.

As the expression goes, this may be a statistical argument based on a sample size of one ( ), but we've had lots of different fans and vent options over the 50+ years we've been RVing, and the MaxxAir vent seems like it's the best.

Thanks Skip. Appreciate that info. Curious also how it seals when it is closed? Is there a gap to the screen in the closed position? Wondering how much heat goes out when it's cold out and furnace is running. I know a regular vent isn't great either but at least it isn't just open.

My experience is so limited that you may need others to chime in. I did note that MaxxAir says you can use the unit as a "ceiling fan" by turning on the fan with the vent closed and it will circulate the air. Well, not much. With the vent closed, there isn't much air moving around the vent. So maybe that means it's sealed pretty well.

    Best,

I had two of the exact fans on my last trailer.
When open, unless it rains sideways, no rain will get in.
There is a rubber seal around the opening of the vent that seals the vent when closed.
Great fan that moves lots of air in or out.

I agree with what you've said. I just installed the 4 speed version of one of these in the kitchen area of our 2670MK. Our new fan only vents out (it's the more basic model). It moves ton of air and it's not too noisy. When it's closed it seems better sealed than the original vent and it has a lock feature. After it's closed all the way you can gently pull down on the know and it sort of locks it. Unlike the cheapo original vent which would sometimes vibrate open a bit.

Thanks for the response. I did order one and it's on my workbench. I did see that it has a seal around the opening so that makes me happy. I never found a picture from the inside online to tell how it sealed. Will be installing next week if the forecast for warmer weather holds up.

Take a moment before you install the fans to make sure the connections are all good. They are usually tucked away on the side. I pulled one out of the box and two connection ends flopped out. Glad it happened before the install.

Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely pay close attention to that.

The “Deluxe” version definitely can be run open in the rain. It does seal closed like a factory vent.
