Question for GD - Exterior Light Bulbs - 385TH

    Janice,

Can you tell me what type of bulbs are used in the following fixtures on the 385TH?

    DS Flood
    Front Porch
    Rear Porch
    Scare Lights

We just lost the bulb in the DS Flood, and I want to get LED's to replace all of them when I do this.

    Thanks in advance!

I just bought the scare light bulbs, they are 1156. I bought LED replacements and they are sold at pretty much any parts store, Wal-Mart, etc. The 1156 must be a very common bulb as the RV dealer was sold out but had a lot of every other bulb.

I have used M4 Products for my LED bulbs on my last trailer. They have great pricing and offer a discount to the RV crowd. I found them thru The RV Geeks at http://thervgeeks.com

    Hi @RamGunner,

Apologies for the delay in my reply! I heard back from my parts department, and they do not recommend replacing the bulbs (only) with LED bulbs on the currently installed light fixtures. They advised LED bulbs generate a lot of heat that might damage the fixtures, and recommended instead to replace each complete light assembly.

    Best regards,
    ~ Janice

There must be some mix-up in this communication .
I have replaced lots of different incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs . . . specifically because the LEDs use much less power and generate much less heat.

    Other thoughts ???

I also replace in side above the island and outside with LED as they use less power and as Rob said generate less heat or do we have it wrong?

GD confirm or please put us right on this!

LEDs will put off a fair amount of heat, maybe not as much as say a halogen bulb. The LED however, may not put heat off in the same place an incandescent light bulb. With an incandescent bulb, the heat is generated at the bulb, so it throwing the outward, as you would expect. LEDs, however, are usually towards the base or rear of the bulb because that have to drop the voltage, which generates heat. So if a fixture is designed to throw heat outward, at the lens, the heat is directed away from the fixture or if a reflector is involved, it more over the bulb than the base. With an LED that heat may be generated more towards the fixture where there is no deflection of heat.

Hope I didn't make that too confusing.
