    Reversing Lights

Has anyone installed any type of a flood light for backing into sites at night.
I was thinking something like LED floods mounted on either side in front of the axels (not on the slides). Maybe tapping into the running lights with a switch.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi Paul,

This is an idea that I have considered as well (but have not gotten around to yet).
At first I was thinking of tying into the unused back-up light connection in the 7 pin connection to the truck . . .
But then I thought it might be handy to have these lights available when disconnected from the truck, so maybe powered from the RV battery ?

    Hey Curtis,

That's an even better idea . . . and easy to do with a centre-off double throw switch !
I wonder if the harness to the TV plug already has the 7th wire . . . .

Yup, or diode, whichever is to your liking. I would imagine the wire is already there. Your truck already has it and the plug is already setup for it. I think I read somewhere on here the wire is there, just not connected to anything.

    OK . . . another "better" idea . . . using a diode !
Because, you know I will always forget to put the switch to the "truck power" side and will have to get out of the truck and fumble for it in the dark.
    Thanks !

I was thinking of a light similar to one of these.

Maybe build a harness from the 7-pin back to each light. I'd likely put the light near the running lights in front of each slide so I could see down the sides on those really dark nights.

I installed back up lights on my last trailer, a Cougar High Country. I used the unused back-up light connection in the 7 pin connection, made a connection in the junction box at the 5th wheel pin, and ran a wire to the rear of the trailer. I used two Harbor Freight work lights mounted on each corner. It worked out great, as I have had to do some tight backing out in some remote areas, usually late at night. On that setup the lights only came on in reverse.

On my trailer now I am going to use some LED lights from M4 Products as they have great prices, and I have bought LED bulbs from them before.

Having a switch is a great idea!!

    Jeff,

Did you use a relay and power from the trailer battery or was the power from the back up light source sufficient?
