Mattress - radius cut vs. square

My Solitude came with a radius cut king size mattress. I'm thinking of replacing it with a Sleep Number. Is there a reason I need to stay with the radius cut or can I go with the square cut? I'm not really sure of the purpose of a radius cut mattress. I'd rather go with the square cut.

Our 366DEN came with a queen size radius cut mattress. My guess is they did this to make it easier for moving around in the bedroom. Not sure how much more difficult it would be to move around with the square cut vs radius but might be something worth thinking about

The bed base probably also has radiused corners which may not offer sufficient support for a square-corned mattress.

I wondered that too. I'll have to check the base and see if it is radius cut.

The foot of our square cut OE queen mattress is at least 4" past the end of the platform. I can't think that a square mattress on a radius cut platform (if it even is) would be problem at all. Your feet can't weigh that much .

We replaced our king with a Tempurpedic Cal King with no problems....other than less space to move around.

We did the same thing with the original mattress, that is we got rid of it, ASAP, as we continued to fall into the center of it. We started out looking for a radius type, but quickly found that you will be limited in selection. We ended up with a standard queen of high quality. The minor inconvenience of the square cut vs a very good nights was well worth it.
