    Dining Table Top Finish??

Looks like if you put warm items such a cup of coffee or a paper plate with warm food on it on the table it will cause a cloudy or milky colored spot to form on the top. I would like to make them go away and prevent them in the future. I haven't done anything yet because I don't know what the table tops are finished with. Does anyone know what type of finished is used? Is there an easy way to make the spots dissapear? Or, does the top need to be refinished?

    Thank You!

I had the same problem with our Solitude dining room table. I used Brasso polish to get it out. Then I bought a table pad from tablepads.com. It took 3 months to get it mainly because it was a custom order. Looks great and we leave it on the table when traveling.

Crazy as it sounds, mayonnaise has been used successfully to remove heat stains in table tops. Use a generous amount and rub it in thoroughly, let it sit overnight, wipe off and buff. You may have to repeat if the stain is deep. Used this method on a teak table in the boat.

The finish is similar to Deft or Minwax polyurethane. Usually sprayed on in 2 coats. The above trick works because you are using an oil to remoisturize the finish and the wood underneath. A quality furniture polish, or wood wax will work the same.

I've actually heard of the mayonnaise remedy ! (But, never tried it)
I've never heard of the Brasso one ?
Marvin & Marion . . . it sounds like we share a history of "messing about with old boats"

Rob, little more than messing around; actually sold our house and lived aboard three different boats for over 10 years before regaining our sanity and buying a house for retirement.
