    Cost of Tags...Wow!

Just picked my license plate for the 303. Just shy of $1000! Just Curious, is Colorado out of line with the rest of the country? There are a lot of 303rls owners here, what have you all paid for a tag in your respective state?

    cheers, jeff

We just received our California plate for our 348M Momentum. It is $619 for our tag.

PA is $28 to issue a new plate, and has a yearly registration fee, price dependent on GVW.

The most expensive towable registration is around $35/ year.

We just got a new trailer and the permanent plate was $300. What hurts a little is that they're not transferable so I now have another $300 license plate to hang on my garage wall.
    I actually wouldn't mind paying a little more if our Michigan roads weren't c r a p.

You say "just picked". Is this a new rig? That almost sounds like it's a tax rather than a fee, so it may be deductible on your federal income tax. Our tags in Texas are a fee and I think it was $230 for our Momentum. When we lived in OK years ago, their tags were a tax base, so we're deductible on our fed returns, though that has been years ago.

In S.C. property tax on our 2015 325X was $971. It is expected to decrease every year. License plate tag I think is only $25. / year.
I refer to S.C. as the Robin Hood state. Fair to tax those who have, and not tax those who have not.

We have a lifetime $90 registration with an annual personal property tax based on book value in Virginia. Doesn't Colorado have a personal property tax?

Also the Ontario plate is transferable. Are these costs being quoted a sales tax, or strickly for the plate?

Yes, the single biggest component of the fee is listed as Owner Tax; $940. DMV lady said it would go down each year, but not much. By comparison, Tags for my Ram 2500 were $150 less, and the truck cost 15 grand more.

OTOH, the state sales tax is 3.9% plus regional/county taxes. Since I live in an unincorporated area, that usually all I pay. some colorado jurisdictions pay upwards of 9%!

I didn't want to sound naive, Between income, sales, ownership or property taxes, each society/state gets the resources to make it go, and each state has a different mix. I was just surprised when I got the bill....

    Cheers,
