16 inch wheels on the 303RLS

Has anyone with a 303RLS with the 2 inch frame lift actually installed 16 inch wheels?

The Westlake tires shipped with the 303 are 28.31 inches OD. There are 6.5 inches between the tires on the front and rear axle, and 2 inches from the backside (inside) of the tire to the frame.

The Goodyear G614RSTs have an OD of 30.7 inches.

The Goodyears would seem to leave only 4.11 inches between the front and rear tire if I replaced the Westlakes with them. Is that too close?

The Goodyears are also .72 inches wider than the Westlakes. That would leave about 1.64 inches from the backside (inside) of the tire to the frame. Is this too close?

I just cannot get comfortable with running Chinese tires.

Sounds like those numbers would work as that is about what I had on my last trailer. Will you also have to change hubs or axles for the heavier wheels to bolt on. 8 lug vs 6

No, to changing hubs. There are plenty of 6 bolt, 16" wheels out there. I'll put a similar inquiry in the tech section as no one seems to have made this conversion.

FWIW I can give you some measurements from our 337 with the OEM Westlake 235/80R16 E which are the same diameter at 30.79" though a little narrower at 9.25" compared to the G614's. You should check your axle spacing though I believe that they would be the same at 35". I have 4" spacing between the tires and 1.5" spacing between the tires and the slide drive cross-shaft...isn't that the clearance that you're referring to. I also have 3" clearance between the top of the tire and the floor with no signs of a rub.

I have a 2014 303 RLS, no 2in lift, and changed to 225/75 16in tires and rims. Firestone Transforce HT. Same size as the West lakes. Loose a little in load capacity but still within specs. I was concerned with inside clearance so stayed with same size, the HTs are the exact same size.

    Hey Don,

I also have a 303 built before the 2" lift.
Do you know where these Firestone tires are made ? Or what the manufacturer code is from the tire sidewall ?

    Thanks

According to tirerack.com, the Firestones are made in the USA.

Luckyd1, any chance we could get a picture with the new tires ? Where did you get the wheels from ? Thanks !

We also have a 2014 Reflection 303 before the 2" lift with 225/75 16 tires- Bridgestone Duravis R250 which are a rib tire like the Michelin rib (but much less $$$). Approximately same size, lose some load capacity but still over our original load range D sticker.

We got the wheels for our previous camper, I believe from tredit. If I were doing it again, I'd ask GD about getting OEM rims.

The Firestone website avoids identifying where any of their tires are made. Not very encouraging. Would still like to know the manufacturer's code from the sidewall . . . to see if we can figure out anything from this.

I guess you could call Firestone and ask them directly in lieu of chasing cryptic tire codes.
