I discovered something yesterday that can change the way this thing worked. Went back down the same stretch of hwy to go to some families house, but this time we didn't take the camper. When we started going down the same bumpy road, I noticed my truck was riding the bumps pretty well empty (mind you it's normally a rough ride in an empty 1 ton with no weight in the bed). Then I realized why...I purchased the Rancho RS9000XL shocks to replace my worn shocks on my truck, these shocks have a adjustment to adjust the ride quality while empty. I had these shocks set to 3 when I went on a business trip to help with that trip, but I forgot to set it back to 9 before I pulled the 5ver. I bet when I do set the shock back to 9 that will help out a lot more as it gives more resistance while under load. I'll report when we get back from our winter vacation if it really did make a bigger difference.

But I do stand behind that the pin box made a difference itself.

Interesting -- I've been thinking about a similar upgrade for my 350M. I'm assuming this is the one you got:

Looks like a simple bolt-on replacement. Any install tips?

Yes that is the one I got from the same website. They also match at etrailer and give you 110% the difference if you find the same exact item somewheres else cheaper (including shipping). I did find it cheaper, so I emailed them the link to here

    http://www.carid.com/lippert-compone...ZzcaAuJh8P8HAQ

This site charges $90 freight, but the total with freight comes out cheaper then etrailer, so you get a credit of the difference @ 110% comes out to a credited of $72.

The tip I would suggest if you do it yourself is this.

If you have access to a forklift, it makes the job 100x better, but even a lift to hold up this heaving thing will help. If you don't have either, get two strong guys to hold it up while you put the bolts in (3 people make it easier then just 2). Also, don't change the grade 5 bolts to grade 8. I found out that they use grade 5 for the shear factor. Also, measure the height of your pin box now, and when you install the new pin box, bring it up one bolt hole higher then the old one, this pin sits lower unhitched because of the airbag and this should keep the camper level when hitched.

We pull using the Andersen Ultimate, so the dampened pin boxes with the rotating mechanisms won't work. With the Andersen, this is no clanging or banging, but on really bad roads, the ride in the truck could get uncomfortable. Over the holidays we installed a Demco Glide Ride to dampen the interaction between the truck and the trailer.

It works like a charm and I am very happy with it. I'm confident that the life expectancy of the trailer and truck chassis as well as my lower back have been extended significantly.

I installed the Trail Air Tri-Glide (one of the last ones built) by myself. The factory pin I unbolted and let it tilt down to the bed of the truck. I then placed a piece of 3/4 inch plywood in the back of my truck flush with the end of the tailgate. Then placed a floor jack in the back of the truck and put the hitch on the floor jack. Backed under the front and jacked it into place.

I installed a trail air on my 388M. I used my lift to install myself. It made a big difference from the stock pin box. I would have installed a Comfort Ride hitch if I had it to do all over again. I will sell it to you and install it for you if you want to come to Tucson, Az.

I have that same air hitch on my Voltage and I was happy to see it wasn't on the Momentum that I'm looking to trade into.
The air leaks out over time and I forgot to check it before I moved it around the yard one time. It mangled the tops of both of my bed rails because without air in the bag it sits too low and doesn't clear when you turn.
