Route through Houston
Any advice for the best route through Houston coming from the east on I10 heading to Rockport?
We will stay overnight east of the city, so we drive the city sometime between 10am and 2pm.
Looking forward to leaving our Virginia Beach 'winterish' weather and spending time in the 303.
Thanks,
Kay

Hi Kay,
Can't help you with the directions, but we're heading to Rockport too. We'll be arriving about the 8th of Feb. Maybe we can meet up.

Houston can be really congested on the freeways, but they are still the best route through. I suggest you go in on I-10 and take US 59 on through. There is construction on 59 as you get past Loop 610 on the west side. Kind of narrow section with concrete side walls, but it opens up pretty quickly. Traffic is always heavy anywhere within 2 miles outside loop 610. Just drove 59 today out of Houston to get through Rockport to Port Aransas. There is also construction on 59 around Richmond and Rosenberg. Have a great trip. Post info about which park you stay in at Rockport.

We have done it several times, and our best decision is to always plan to go through on a Sunday morning. We just take I-10 and US 59 straight through, and there is little traffic. It is worth the wait for Sunday.

Lived in the Houston area for years, I-10 is always busy but Sunday traffic is lighter, otherwise 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM is about as good as you can get. As Tom said, take I-10 to US-59 and watch road signs carefully, you won't have a lot of time to make lane changes. We stayed at Lagoons RV Park in Rockport, nice, clean CG although the sites are a little close they are not as crowded as most of the others in the area.

Heading to Arizona in 11 days. Found a place to stay near Houston on the east side. It is called East Houston RV resort. It is right off of Route 10. People were very nice when I called and it has good ratings so I am going to give it a try. Will go to San Antonio after that and then to Arizona.

Debby, real good CG a little west of San Antonio at exit 501 on I-10 is Buckhorn Lake Resort. We have stayed there several times, nice big, level concrete sites and very friendly staff. They host a lot of RV rallies.

Yep! Buckhorn is a great place. Headed there from Pueblo El Mirage for our March lay-over.
