    Running Furnance while traveling

    Team,

I have a Solitude 369 RL. We will be leaving GA and headed to Indy the middle of February. Is it safe to run the furnance while traveling to ensure our water lines don't freeze? Should we winterize our water lines during the travel? Thanks for any tips you can give me.

Yes, you can run your furnace while traveling. Are you using the trailer once you get to Indy? If not, then winterize. My other tip, wash the whole trailer, especially the frame once you get out of salt on the roads.

Thanks Mike! Yes we will be using the RV in Indy for about six weeks then heading for Phoenix. Thanks for the tip on washing the whole RV to get the salt off.

A similar question was asked in mid - October, regarding running the furnace with the slides in. Grand Design's answer was that the furnace should not be ran with the slides in. No explanation as to why.

Link to the post, GD's answer is #5.

Probably because it may block a floor register with the slides it. Mine doesn't have blocked vents with the slides in.

Kamper, I'm in Indy now (45 degrees now) we heading to FL Friday for a short trip and coming back about the same time you are, I plan on watching the weather. If it stays above freezing as predicted it will be good. I plan on at least draining my lines and HW heater in KY if it is below freezing while on the road. Not sure why GD says not to run the heater with the slides in, probably some liability issue.

Thanks I will do the same. Probably will travel during the day while the temp is higher. Thanks for the tip.

I'm sure GD nor any other manf. will say its ok to run the heater since they advise in the owners manual to make sure the propane is off while traveling. If we just stayed south it wouldn't be an issue!!

Not sure where you are staying in Indy but there is a truck wash (Blue Beacon) on the south side of Indy off I465, wash is ~$25
