Progressive Industries Electrical Management System
Does anyone have any experience with the Progressive Industries Electrical Management System? A guy I work with had a bad experience with the electrical supply at a campground and had his TV, microwave and the control panel on his refrigerator fried along with everyone else in the row he was parked in. He got one of the Progressive Industries EMS units on the recommendation from another person at the campground that did not loose any appliances.

There are many on this forum with both the external and built in versions of surge protectors. We have the external TRC Surge Guard and are very happy with it. Many (including ourselves) have had power shut off by these devices, for voltage conditions that could damage things on the RV. If you use the search tool in the upper right corner on key words like "surge protector" you will find these earlier discussions.

I will never connect without protection. I lost a refrigerator panel, microwave and AC compressor due to a loose neutral many tears ago

My brother in law is one row over from us in the same rv park. I use an external progressive industries EMS system, and he doesn't. He now has a fried microwave and fireplace. I don't have any damage from a surge. Make sure you understand the difference between a surge protector and an electrical management system before you spend your money.

I just installed the Progressive Industries HW50C in our new rig last week. I'm new to this RV thing but I've read nothing but good things about this product. Like my G614 tires, cheap insurance. Well, relatively speaking anyway...

Food for thought (FWIW). We bought the Progressive external inline 50 amp. protector and it has protected us twice. It has also failed twice, the first time I sent it back and it was repaired quickly. The second time I called them and they sent me a replacement unit. Their customer service is exemplary! But my point is- if you had these problems with a unit mounted into the unit, it gets more complicated to deal with!

Good point! The hard wired unit has a bypass switch. I'm not sure if that will work in the case of all failures but I sure hope so. I think I'll ask the company since you brought this up.

I have a hard wired system, but I also carry a portable. I have a dedicated line to the EMS, so if it goes bad, I can easily take it out and return to portable

I sent an email to Progressive Industries and they confirmed that if their system (HW50C anyway) fails for any reason, the bypass switch will restore power.
