Backup / ground lights for trailers
Anyone ever put backup lights on their trailer? There are more times than not that I wish I had some backup lights on my previous trailer. I know they are not desired when in campgrounds but we always seem to be trying to park / maneuver at night and it would be nice to be able to see well around the trailer without having to use a flashlight.
I put 2 of these on the back bumper and 2 of them about 5' behind the front of the trailer and they did OK but still weren't as bright as I would have liked.

I did the same thing on my TT and made a huge difference. I used 4" square LED and wired it into the yellow wire in the J box on the tongue. I wired in a relay and hooking it to the capped off yellow wire enabled the lights to come on when I put the truck in reverse. I traded the TT this week and plan on doing the same setup on my new reflection fifth wheel.

Which lights did you use? I found some 27w ones on amazon that look interesting.

They are Kawell 27W 6500K LED lights. Got them as a 2pack for around 45.00 from Amazon.

Those were the ones I was looking at. So I take it they were plenty bright enough? Did you just put 2 on the back or did you put some down the length of the trailer?

They were plenty bright for me. I put two on the rear bumper and two just ahead of the front axle, one on each side, shining out to the sides. These illuminated the wheels and surrounding area so I could see where the wheels were. I think you will like them. I think but not certain they make a higher wattage.

That's is basically the exact layout I was thinking. 27w should be fine. The old ones I was hooking, up before my trailer got crushed by a tree, were 10w and I was concerned about their brightness.

On our last trailer, I installed two Harbor Freight tractor lights just behind the rear bumper. They helped us a lot in many situations. As they were mounted under the trailer, they didn't light up above the bumper and bother anyone that I know of. They only went on while I was in reverse.

I need to do something like this after our last outing and backing into our spot after dark..was a challenge to say the least. Where is the J box on the 350M where I'd pick up the yellow wire? Also, Whats the relay for? Thanks

I've been thinking the same thing, My issue is running the wires. That's a long distance to run wire for lights. I'm thinking I would put mine on a toggle, it would be nice to have lights around when doing work as well. Some of the LED Cubes are amiable, which would be really nice, if say you need to replace a tire on the side of the road.
For the distance and draw (assuming 20W lights x4) you need 10-12AWG wire to make it 40-50 feet (Assuming bends and such). That's going to be annoying to run and protect.2015 Laramie 3500 MegaCab 4x4 DRW Maximum Steel
